Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? Modern Telematics Best Practices.

Q. We seem to be running at 100% productivity—but I want to make sure that we are. How can we use our telematics data to make sure we’re optimizing our productivity?

A. Your telematics solution is key to measuring every aspect of fleet productivity.

For example, Geotab’s solution provides numerous reports to measure key performance indicators, including:

  • Trips summary, which reports mileage, driving time, idling time and zone type duration to make sure drivers are using their time to the fullest.
  • Customer visits, which measures time of arrival and time of departure and duration spent in a zone.
  • Time-card report, which measures first and last ignition of the day, driving time, idling duration, location of the last ignition and zone type.
  • Trips history report, which shows a bread crumb trail of where your drivers are day in and out.

These are just some of the reports that can be used to measure the fleet’s productivity score, which consists of the following formula: (Total Hours Worked) / (Shift Hours less Lunch, Breaks or Meetings, Downtime like traffic) = Productivity Score

As with most fleet activities, telematics can help take the guesswork out of whether your fleet is productive, replacing it with objectively measured and recorded data. Knowing your drivers’ individual productivity scores, you can then measure your fleet’s overall score and make adjustments both at the individual and the fleet level.
