The Mid-America Trucking Show will be held this week, March 27-29, at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in Louisville, Ky.

The show opens to the general public Thursday from 1-6 p.m., and continues Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The demand for exhibit space at Mid-America has increased to the point that MATS will once again be using Broadbent Arena in addition to the newly renovated North Wing, South Wing, East Hall, West Wing, Pavilion and Lobby Areas. All told, the show will encompass more than 1 million square feet of indoor air conditioned exhibit space and more than 200,000 square feet of outdoor exhibits and events. Some of the special events scheduled during the show include:
* The Paul K. Young Memorial truck beauty championship will feature 100-plus decked-out, chromed and shined rigs competing in more than 20 classes.
* The West Wing of the Expo Center will be host to several special-interest exhibit areas, including The Internet & Technology Center, the Driver Recruitment Center, and the Expediter Experience.
* Sirius Satellite Radio will be broadcasting live from the show, including Freewheelin' with Meredith and Chris T., and The Lockridge Report with trucking journalist Evan Lockridge.
* Heavy Duty Representatives Association will feature the new president of Remy Inc., Jay Pittas, as speaker at its annual breakfast. The breakfast will be on Thursday, March 27 at 7 a.m. in the Executive West Hotel.
* The Midnight Trucking Radio Network's lobby booth will host the "Queen of Bluegrass" Rhonda Vincent 1-4 p.m. Thursday and Grammy winner Suzy Bogguss 1-4 p.m. Friday. Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. it's The Chrome Shop Mafia from "Trick My Truck."
* Tom Plimpton, president of Paccar, will be the keynote speaker at the Annual Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association Breakfast & Briefing from 7 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28.
* 1st Guard Corp., which offers truck insurance for owner-operators leased to a motor carrier, is hosting a breakfast with Bill Mack at the Kentucky Exposition Center on Friday, March 28 at 8 a.m. in room C104, located in the South Wing hall. The breakfast is free and open to lease operators and their immediate family members.
* Seminars in the South Wing Conference Center will cover topics such as Internet recruiting, hours of service, retention techniques, employment law, insurance for owner-operators, compliance 101, roadside inspections, and computers in the cab.
