Mack Trucks says its 12.8-liter MP8 engine is newly available in its MR TerraPro concrete pumper chassis, which was formerly available only with the 11-liter MP7.

The larger diesel meets increased customer demand for high horsepower and torque in this application, said Curtis Dorwart, vocational product marketing manager.

The MP8 has three ratings and special performance calibrations unique to the concrete pumping industry. Ratings range from 425 to 505 horsepower and 1,760 pounds-feet of torque.

“The higher horsepower and torque available with the MP8 provide effective and efficient operation of the concrete pump under the demanding and variable engine loading conditions that are routinely encountered during operation,” Dorwart said. “Concrete pumpers demand incredible power and performance, both of which are offered by the Mack MP8 and Mack TerraPro combination.”

The market for pumper chassis is reviving as the general economy improves and construction activity ramps up, he added. It had been dormant, along with that for new concrete mixer chassis, for several years.

Mack says the TerraPro cabover offers superior visibility, durability and maneuverability. It's available with a variety of multi-axle configurations to support large, heavy pumper bodies. As in past years, Mack and pumper-body makers are displaying completely outfitted TerraPros at this week’s World of Concrete show in Las Vegas.

A TerraPro pumper chassis is standard with an integrated Mack Pedigree Powertrain that includes a Maxitorque ES manual transmission, C150/151 and C202/203 axles, and an MP7 or MP8 diesel with ClearTech selective catalytic reduction system.
