ALK is adding Weather Alerts to its ALK Maps and PC*MILER web services platforms. The Weather Alerts module overlays weather information on top of the existing ALK Maps platform allowing drivers and dispatchers to see where severe weather is occurring.

ALK Maps Weather Alerts pulls in severe weather alert information from the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. There are more than 120 different alert types including winter storm warnings, wind advisories, hurricanes and flood alerts.

The alerts are categorized by severity, urgency and certainty. Drivers and dispatchers will be able to see severe weather and plan routes to avoid hazardous conditions. The Weather Alerts are displayed on the ALK Maps platform in color coded format using National Weather Service color schemes.

Weather Alerts is available to purchase as an additional module for the ALK Maps and PC*Miler software services.

“The Weather Alerts module automates the time-intensive process of actively tracking weather conditions across the U.S.,” said Rishi Mehra, senior product manager, enterprise services at ALK. “Driver and fleet managers can now focus on directing vehicles around problems rather than figuring out what those problems are and where they exist.”
