Gallery: Paul K. Young Truck Beauty Contest 2017

Alan Adams, Anderson, Indiana. 1999 Kenworth W900L.

The bevy of beauties at this year's Paul K. Young Truck Beauty contest at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky, seemed a little thinner. There were fewer of the highly customized "Mafia" style trucks, and the winners list showed a preference for more traditional entries. There were some nicely done classics and some brand new trucks as well. Here's a sample of what we saw out behind the stables this year. All photos by Jim Park.

Photos: Antique Trucks at Mid-America 2016

Normally, this space in the South Hall of the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., is crammed with the latest offereings from truck manufacturers. This year, in their absence, we found this terrific collection of antiques, courtesy of the American Truck Historical Society.

The name may sound regional, but Mid-America draws exhibitors from all over -- even China. Photo: Deborah Lockridge

Louisville may have been out of the basketball tournament before it was begun, but there's a different kind of "March Madness" in this Kentucky city every year, and it's the Mid-America Trucking Show. Trucks and trailers, kids and dogs, pork chops and show trucks. Join us for a visual tour of the 2016 show.

Mid-America Trucking Show, Day 3

Crowds were decent on Saturday, but not overwhelming. It was a good day for walking the show and a good opportunity to get close to the exhibitors. Photo by Jim Park

Saturday at Mid-America is usually the biggest day, but it turned out to be not quite as big as everyone expected. While the crowds were stronger than expected on Friday, numbers were down on Saturday. That was good news for show-goers, as it was actually possible to walk the aisles and get close to the trucks. Equipment Editor Jim Park spent the day wandering the show and took these photos.

Mid-America Trucking Show, Day 2

At 8:15, just as the sun was breaking over Freedom Hall on Friday morning, the temperature was a chilly 36 degrees. Photo: Jim Park

Day 2 of MATS got off to a sunny but cold start -- a pleasant change from Day 1, when rain spoiled the day for anyone outdoors. Exhibitors seemed to think the crowds on the first full day of the show were better than any in recent years.
