Photos: Mid-America Trucking Show 2014, Day 3

Don't let anyone tell you that the classic-styled trucks are dead. Peterbilt's Model 389 drew crowds all weekend, as did Western Star and Kenworth with their long-nose models.

Saturday in Louisville, Ky., was windy, blustery and rainy -- great weather for an indoor trade show, not so good for those wanting to see the truck beauty competition outside. Inside it was warm and dry, and attendees got some valuable one-on-one face time with the hundreds of exhibitors.

Owners Restore Vintage Kenworth Trucks

1931 Kenworth Model N — Dave Schroyer, Celina, Ohio

For Al Koenig, his first look at a Kenworth truck at the age of 8 was love at first sight. “I can remember the first time I saw Kenworth trucks as they passed my parents’ Minnesota farm,” Koenig said.

The stories of Koenig and several other Kenworth truck owners who collect and restore vintage Kenworths have one common theme: a strong fondness for trucks, particularly Kenworths.

Exhaust aftertreatment equipment is behind the steps on the right side. A nose-mounted convex mirror shows what might be alongside or in front of the bumper.

Senior Editor Tom Berg recently took the Peterbilt 567 out for a Test Drive. A bigger cab and chassis improvements place this new vocational truck above the current Model 367. Here are photos from his evaluation. Read the full article here.

Photos: Trucking for a Really Good Cause

The athletes are the stars at the Special Olympics convoys.<br />

Truck drivers don't always get credit for the good they do. This collection of photos is from a few of the Convoy events Equipment Editor Jim Park has attended over the years. It's easy to tell from the pictures that drivers put a lot into these fundraisers. But it's more than just raising money. It's a bunch of people that often work in isolation coming together for a cause and showing the underlying sense of community that exists among drivers -- and is rarely seen in public.
