Transport America, Eagan, Minn., changed its pay plan for its owner-operators, allowing all the company’s independent contractors to make $1 per mile.

The pay increase, which goes into effect July 1, eliminates the difference between hazardous materials and non-hazmat base pay. With the increased pay, all Transport America owner-operators will earn $1 per mile, according to the company.

This is on top of additional pay package enhancements that went into effect May 1, including improved fuel and DEF discounts with 100% pass through to the owner-operator.

Last year, Canadian transportation and logistics firm TransForce announced it was buying Transport America for $310 million. The company, which began operations in 1984, provides a wide range of truckload carriage and logistics services in various lengths of haul in the United States, parts of Canada and Mexico.
