[UPDATED] Truck Renting and Leasing Association President and CEO Tom James died unexpectedly Monday night at his home in Arlington, Virginia. He was 51.

James had been with TRALA for nearly 13 years, serving as its senior vice president of government relations before ascending to the chief executive of the organization in 2009. He was probably best known for working to eliminate vicarious liability for owners of rented and leased vehicles.

Prior to joining TRALA, he was senior vice president of The Furman Group, where he represented clients on a wide range of issues, focusing on infrastructure and natural resources.

James will be honored on Sunday, December 21, in Vienna, Virginia. The reception will take place beginning at 12 noon at Clyde's Tysons Corner at 8332 Leesburg Pike.

Based in Alexandria, Va., TRALA is a voluntary, non-profit national trade association working to provide a unified and focused voice for the truck renting and leasing industry.
