If a company can control the details of the work performed on its behalf, then workers are employees, not independent contractors, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said in a ruling this week involving a California case and truck drivers.

The Central Valley Business Times in California, reports the decision overturns a pervious court ruling in 2010 involving drivers who worked for Affinity Logistics, which found they were independent contractors. 

An Affinity driver originally filed the case in 2009 for failing to receive sick, vacation and holiday pay, along with being charged for workers compensation insurance.
