Asset-light trucking company, Roadrunner Transportation Systems, has acquired all of the outstanding stock of Unitrans International, a non-asset based provider of international logistics solutions based in Los Angeles, Calif.
Unitrans offers its customers international ocean and air transportation management, customs house brokerage, and domestic logistics solutions, with a focus on complex, cold chain, and high value shipments.
“One of our key strategic objectives is expanding our international capabilities to meet our customers’ total transportation and logistics needs,” said Mark DiBlasi, president and CEO of the Wiscondin-based Roadrunner. “The addition of Unitrans diversifies and expands our existing global supply chain solution and brings a well-run company with a proven track record of high service quality to Roadrunner.”
The purchase price was $55.5 million, with Unitrans management remaining with the company. In 2013, Unitrans generated revenues of approximately $84 million.
Last month Roadrunner purchased Arkansas-based truckload and expedited services provider Rich Logistics, reportedly increasing its fleet size to 3,500 drivers, with more than 80% being owner-operators.
In 2013 Roadrunner was named to Fortune magazine’s list of the 100 fastest growing publically held companies, ranked 28 overall.
