The Washington State Patrol issued a citation for $40,865 to the driver of a truck hauling a massive transformer from Texas to Canada. KIRO TV News from Seattle reports State Patrol officers caught the truck after it broke down on a county road in Mount Vernon.

Prior to being apprehended, the driver, Ken Green, had taken the 232,000-lb load across bridge rated for 105,000 pounds, the news story states.

The report says the driver was trying to avoid an overpass on I-5 that would not have cleared the transformer. He instead took a county road and damaged some infrastructure trying to maneuver the truck through a roundabout.

Green told reporters at KIRO TV that there were some problems with the permits he was issued for the load. The citations are written to the driver.
