Teamsters Move Closer to Approving UPS Contract

Teamsters Union local leaders representing UPS workers across the country have unanimously endorsed a tentative five-year national agreement, clearing the way for ballots to be prepared and sent to members.

General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall, who also serves as Package Division Director and Co-Chairman of the Teamsters UPS Freight National Negotiating Committee with General President Jim Hoffa, presented the changes contained in the tentative agreement to nearly 200 local union leaders.

“This is a strong tentative agreement that does exactly what our members asked for, which is to take on subcontracting while increasing wages and pension contributions,” Hall said. “The committee stayed focused and united, and they got the job done.”

Details of the tentative agreement with UPS Freight were outlined at the “two-person” meeting, attended by two representatives from each Local Union. This is the second national agreement for UPS Freight Teamsters. The pact was reached late last month.

Ballots will be mailed to all members at the end of May for ratification of the master agreement. Complete voting instructions will be included in the ballot package. Tentatively, ballots will start being counted on or about June 20. If the contract is ratified it would take effect on August 1.

    This is BS. I work for ifreight and this is as bad or worse than the last contract. They want to Hire a new classification called a "Line Haul Driver" which will cause alot of extra board road drivers to lose their job.
    And they cut our pension
    Total BS, no freight driver is liking this and hopefully it will not pass.

    We were told 5 years ago that our contract was sub par because it was allowing us to get our foot in the door and the next contract would be much better. This contract does not address any of the major issues we've been having for the last five years. The new LHD board will not only affect all current drivers at UPS freight, city and road but will open this philosophy up to other union companies as well. What happened to equal pay for equal work? If this passes it will have catastrophic effects to all union drivers as we know it. Every driver I talk to is voting NO. I believe ups freight became a bargaining chip for big brown. All ups freight workers will stand together on this issue. We put Faith in the IBT 5 years ago and now it is time for them to stay true to their word.

    Regarding part time ups employees. Teamsters is advertising no premiums for medical insurance but what they are not telling us is that the insurance under the new contract for part timers is sub par and we will now have deductibles to meet as well. Give us all the information so we know what we are voting on,
