Due to the overwhelming popularity of its previous health-and-wellness efforts and continual positive feedback from its members, the Truckload Carriers Association is launching a third Trucking’s Weight Loss Showdown.

The event brings together teams of drivers and staff from truckload companies to determine which individual and which company can achieve the greatest percentages of weight loss during a 10-week period.

For the new challenge, six teams will be competing:

American Central Transport – Liberty, Mo.
Bay & Bay Transportation– Rosemount, Minn.
E.W. Wylie Corporation – West Fargo, N.D.
Freight Exchange of North America – Chicago, Ill.
Grand Island Express – Grand Island, Neb.
Halvor Lines, Inc. – Superior, Wis.

“When we first made a plan to address obesity within the trucking industry, we knew we’d have to create something fun and competitive to capture the imagination of the trucking community. We’ve definitely accomplished that with these showdowns,” said Chris Burruss, TCA’s president. “With each new challenge, we gain valuable insight into the motivators people need to make a permanent, long-term commitment to their health. We’ll be using this insight to develop new tools and resources for the industry.”

For 10 weeks, from June to August of 2013, teams comprised of both drivers and trucking company staff will follow the Lean for Life On-the-Road program offered by the Lindora Clinic, America's leading clinical weight management provider. The program stresses a low-carbohydrate, low-fat, moderate-protein menu plan, coupled with exercise, nutrition education, and lifestyle changes. Lindora coaches will contact each individual throughout the battle to provide nutrition education, help boost morale, discuss obstacles, and record weight loss.

The Showdown offers several incentives as motivation for sticking with the weight loss regiment throughout the challenge. TravelCenters of America/Petro Stopping Centers of Westlake, Ohio, will make the Lindora Clinic’s program available to the company winner for another 10 weeks, a prize valued at $13,000. The winner will be able to renew the enrollment of its Showdown team or sign up other employees. TA/Petro will also provide restaurant and food gift cards or certificates valued at $3,000.

The individual who loses the greatest percentage of weight will receive $2,500 and a trophy, provided by Cline Wood Agency of Leawood, Kan.

The company and individual winners of Showdown number three will be honored at the Great American Trucking Show (TA/Petro booth), August 22-24, in Dallas, Texas. Be sure to check www.TruckingsWeightLossShowdown.com for the latest details as they become available.
