The announcements of the continuing support for the American Trucking Associations' safety and image programs were made at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nev.

America's Road Team uses drivers with proven safety records to spread awareness about highway safety and foster understanding about the crucial role that trucking plays in the economy. Volvo Trucks has sponsored the program for more than a decade.

Members of the America's Road Team, called Captains, speak to lawmakers, government officials, students, regulators and other drivers to increase awareness about the essential nature of America's trucking industry and the importance of highway safety. The Captains have logged millions of miles behind the wheel without an accident and are chosen only after a rigorous selection process.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the America's Road Team program, Volvo supplied the Captains with a VNL 780 tractor, which they use to transport the ATA Image Trailer, a mobile experience trailer used during Road Team presentations.

Share the Road is designed to enhance the safety of America's roadways by teaching car drivers how to safely drive around large trucks. It uses professional truck drivers with exemplary safety records to educate people about potential blind spots, safe following distances, truck stopping distances and other important topics.

Traditionally, the drivers have spread this information through demonstrations to local media, students, community leaders and travelers across the U. S.

As part of its program commitment, Mack provided Share the Road with a SmartWay-certified Mack Pinnacle Axle Back model equipped with a Mack mDrive automated manual transmission and a 13-liter 505 horsepower Mack MP8 engine.

The Pinnacle is the third truck that Mack has provided to Share the Road since it became the founding sponsor in 2001.
