Net orders for trailers fell 11% month-over-month in March, but for the quarter, were almost identical to orders in the first quarter of 2011, according to State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers published by ACT Research Co.

"Every trailer category posted month-over-month gains in build," says Frank Maly, director, CV transportation with ACT Research. "Coupled with the modest drop in orders, the total industry backlog fell just over 1% month-over-month. Despite incremental softness, the backlog was up 17% compared to year-ago levels. Industry backlogs remain supportive of current production levels."
