Since the trough of the heavy-duty aftermarket in December 2009, U.S. parts sales have increased by 29.4%.

As reported in late March by MacKay & Company in its Aftermarket Index, sales to both original equipment service programs and to the independent heavy-duty aftermarket have all increased substantially - although not identically. Furthermore, meaningful sales increases have taken place not only in the U.S., but also in Canada and Mexico.

MacKay & Company, supplier of heavy-duty aftermarket information, has been collecting monthly aftermarket sales data from 12 of the leading suppliers to both the original equipment and independent aftermarkets since 1998. These suppliers provide monthly information separately on sales to both the OES and independent channels in the U.S., Canada and Mexico on a confidential basis to MacKay & Company acting as a clearing house. Composite data is aggregated and analyzed, and monthly benchmark data is supplied back to each participant.

The company's Aftermarket Index allows participating companies to measure their aftermarket performance in both primary channels of distribution in each of three geographic markets on a monthly basis. New participants entering the Index program are asked to provide several years of historical data.
