President Obama will visit a Daimler Trucks North America plant in North Carolina today, where he's expected to tout the economy, job growth and fuel-efficiency standards.

Sustained strong orders for new vehicles prompted DTNA to make a major increase in production at its Freightliner Truck Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland, N.C. The builder announced in January it would add a second shift and plans to create more than 1,100 new jobs by the end of 2012.

Daimler Trucks North America announced last month that it will meet new commercial truck efficiency standards by the 2013 model year, a year ahead of deadline.

The new federal rules, announced last August, will result in trucks and buses built in 2014 to 2018 reducing oil consumption by an estimated 530 million barrels and greenhouse gas emissions by about 270 million metric tons.
