Rodolph Davis "R.D." Moseley, retired founder of Bulldog Hiway Express, died Friday. He was 84.
Moseley was born May 27, 1927, in Salters S.C. He joined the US Army at 18 and after serving in the Army moved to Charleston and began working for Packet Motor Express in 1944. In 1959, while assistant manager of Packet, he left the company to start Bulldog Hiway Express.
The company began with one $950 used truck. Under Moseley's direction, the carrier expanded to include hundreds of tractors and trailers transporting freight throughout the East.
Active in the trucking industry, Moseley has served at various times as a Chairman of the South Carolina Trucking Association, a State Representative to the American Trucking Association, and as President of the Charleston Motor Carriers Association. As part of the Citizen's Democracy Corps, he consulted with trucking companies in Russia and Romania.
He was also a lifetime member of The Citadel Alumni Association. He began the R.D. Moseley Scholarship at The Citadel Brigadier Foundation in 2007.
A private service with burial was held Sunday at The Summerall Chapel, The Citadel.
