Mercedes' new Actros model last week was named the International Truck of the Year 2012 at the Trailer 2011 exhibition in Kortrijk, Belgium.

The jury, consisting of 23 self-appointed journalists from as many countries, gave Actros 161 points. The closest candidate for the award were the Czech Tatra Phoenix, which got 67 points, followed by the Scania Euro 6, which received 50 points.

The jury believed the Actros provides the greatest contribution to modern road transport for the upcoming year in terms of innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

This is the second consecutive year that Mercedes-Benz receive the appointment Truck of the Year. Last year, the German manufacturer received the title for its Atego Hybrid, a somewhat controversial decision. The closest candidate at that time was the Volvo FMX.

For the Actros as a model, this was fourth time. The first time was in 1997, followed by 2004 when the second generation came. The third generation was honored in 2009.

Thus, Mercedes for the past four years has received the Truck of the Year title three times. Overall, Mercedes has won eight times since the award was presented for the first time in 1977.
