Marten Transport instituted its third compensation increase for independent contractors so far this year. The increase takes effect on October 26.

These new rates, which allow Marten contractors to earn an additional 5 cents per mile for hauls between 151 and 800 miles, contribute to a series of rate increases for independent contractors over the last five months. In May, the company made a significant increase to contractor settlement rates across the board and in July, it established an automatic detention pay for contractors.

"We want our independent contractors to continue to be successful business partners and this rate increase is a big part of that," said Tim Norlin, Marten Transport director of recruiting. "Our focus is on the regional business and this particular added benefit targets routes that fall into this category."

Marten prides itself on working with the highest quality owner-operators and offering a premium service to its ever growing customer base.

"We are always concentrating on growing our business and we hope this increase in our contractor rates will inspire more owner/operators to join us as we move forward in this industry," said Norlin. "We're excited about what the future holds."
