The Indiana Department of Transportation said a full replacement will not be needed for the closed Sherman Minton Bridge over the Ohio River.

INDOT said engineers have not yet determined what needs to be done to repair the nearly half-century-old steel span on I-64. Testing is expected to be completed by early October. INDOT expects to have cost estimates for the repairs and a timetable for making them after analysis is complete.

The bridge was closed on Sept. 9 after inspectors found a 2.5-inch crack in a structural beam.
