Bill Graves, president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations, and Annette Sandberg, a former federal safety official and now an industry consultant, will speak at opening sessions of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week 2012, the organization said.


Graves' presentation, Washington Update: Status and Outlook for the Trucking Industry - 2012, is part of the opening session of the HDAW 2012 Education Program and will take place at 9:30am Tuesday, January 24, at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

Graves' presentation will look at the impact of the economy on the heavy-duty industry, while also examining the potential effects of federal policy issues. His key points are to support of the HDAW '12 theme of "Corporate Culture: The Foundation for Success."

Graves, whose family operated a trucking company in Kansas, spent 22 years as the state's National Guard commander and secretary of state, and two terms as Governor. He was reelected to his second term with the largest percentage of votes in Kansas history.

Annette Sandberg, CEO of TranSafe Consulting, will also help kick-off the education program with a presentation on "The Impact of CSA: Helping Your Fleet Customers Comply While Growing Your Business." Her presentation is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Sandberg's presentation will focus on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's CSA's Compliance, Safety, Accountability program. She will summarize violation statistics and explain the balance between state and federal authority on various regulations.


As CEO of TranSafe, Sandberg advises motor carries, logistics companies and shippers in transportation regulatory compliance and motor carrier safety issues. She served as the administrator and deputy administrator of FMCSA when CSA started, and was deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sandberg served as an officer and chief of the Washington State Patrol for 18 years. She is a frequent speaker at transportation industry seminars.
