Joplin-based Con-way Truckload is supplying empty trailers for storage space in stricken Joplin, but calls for more.

Five days after an EF5 tornado slammed into Joplin, Missouri, the death toll has risen to 132. The list of missing stands at 156, and there have been over 900 reported injuries.

In this early stage of clean-up and recovery, storage of donated items is an important issue. Con-Way Truckload has donated a number of trailers to aid in the relief effort. However, Randy Cornell, vice president of maintenance, issued a call for more help. As of this morning, Con-way was short 15-20 trailers. Companies interested in loaning a trailer for use in relief efforts should contact Cornell at 417.623.5229 x5737.

According to DeAnne Rickabaugh, outreach coordinator with the Missouri Department of Transportation, the situation in Joplin remains much the same. Truckers should still avoid entering the area without permission. Truckers headed to Joplin with supplies should call 417.625.3542 to make sure aid gets to the right place.
