The Arizona Trucking Association and Arizona Transportation Education Foundation announced winners of the industry's fleet safety competition, along with three individual awards and the winners of the state truck driving championships held April 16.


Fleet safety awards are given to trucking companies that have the lowest accident rates per million miles traveled within Arizona. Winners of fleet safety awards based on 2010 data are:

* Synergistic Transportation, Phoenix, 1-250,000 annual Arizona miles

* Bulk or Liquid Transport, Grover Beach, Calif., 250,001-500,000 annual Arizona miles

* J&L Transportation, Phoenix, 500,001-1,000,000 annual Arizona miles

* The Waggoners Trucking, Irving, Texas, Phoenix Division, 1,000,001-2,000,000 annual Arizona miles

* Central Arizona Freight, Chandler, 2,000,001-4,000,000 annual Arizona miles

* FedEx Freight, Phoenix, over 7 million annual Arizona miles

* 2010 Chairman's Award for Fleet Safety - Central Arizona Freight, for no DOT recordable accidents in 2010 despite operating a total of 2,596,061 miles

* 2010 Driver of the Year - Bobbie Ann Schwemm, Central Arizona Freight, Phoenix

* 2010 Maintenance Technician of the Year - Eric Dyer, Inland Kenworth, Phoenix

* 2010 Safety Professional of the Year - Randi Korte, Salt River Project, Phoenix

Winners of the state truck driving competition will represent Arizona in the National Truck Driving Championships in Orlando, Florida in August. To enter the state competition, all drivers had to be accident-free for the year preceding the contest. Of the 150 drivers who competed on April 16, the winners are:

* Russell Norman, Mesa, and Sean Saxon, Scottsdale, both with FedEx Ground

* Robert Petersen, Phoenix, and Scott Watts, Goodyear, both with FedEx Express

* Dale Moyle, Peoria, and Eric Ramsdale, Wittman, both with Wal-Mart Transportation

* Tibor Paufler, Kingman, ABF Freight Systems

* Mario Moran, Peoria, Knight Transportation

* Thomas Snow, Phoenix, Western Refining Wholesale

Moyle was also named Overall Grand Champion based on his scores on all aspects of the state competition.
