Holland, a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide, plans to hire nearly 1,000 drivers this year. Building on strong fourth quarter performance, the company is preparing for further increases in shipments.

The less-than-truckload carrier currently has approximately 1,700 over-the-road drivers. More than 450 have driven 1 million accident-free miles and nearly 100 have driven 2 million accident-free miles. Holland also has approximately 5,000 city drivers.

Holland is a YRC Regional Transportation company offering services throughout the Central, Southeastern, Midwestern United States and Eastern Canada.

YRC's regional group, which includes Holland, New Penn and Reddaway, returned to profitability in the second quarter of 2010, earning $35.8 million in three quarters. The group's tonnage increased 13.9 percent in the last quarter.

In announcing the hiring plans Monday, Holland President Jeff Rogers said in a statement: "We're excited at Holland to see that our volumes are building."
