The annual World's Most Admired Companies report released last week listed FedEx as the 8th ranked company, up five positions from the organization's rank in 2010.
FedEx has ranked among the top 20 in the Fortune Most Admired Companies list since 2001.

The full list included 350 companies and was broken down into industry-specific categories. "Trucking, Transportation and Logistics," which includes railways, highlighted several important trucking and logistics firms. The category's Most Admired included C.H. Robinson Worldwide and J.B. Hunt Transportation Services. Union Pacific, however, claimed the number one spot. Contenders included Ryder, Werner Enterprises, Landstar, Con-way, Pacer and YRC Worldwide.

The survey measures nine attributes related to financial performance and corporate reputation. Fortune's survey partners at Hay Group started with approximately 1,400 companies. They then sorted the companies by industry and selected the 15 largest for each international industry and the 10 largest for each U.S. industry. A total of 673 companies from 32 countries were surveyed.
