FFE has opened an FFE Driver Academy in Fort Worth, Texas.

Licensed and accredited by the Texas Workforce Commission, the academy will provide comprehensive training for individuals with no prior tractor-trailer experience. The curriculum includes the required information and training necessary to acquire a 'Class A' Commercial Driver's License. According to FFE, the school goes well beyond the basic requirements for a CDL by providing extensive behind the wheel training and classroom instruction, including food safety and cold chain compliance, to ensure each student develops the professional skills necessary to operate safely and maintain FFE customer service expectations.

"Our vision was to establish a best-in-class student program and career succession opportunity," said John Hickerson, executive VP and COO of FFE Transportation Services. "The FFE Driver Academy is a core strategic initiative as we continue to grow our capacity to meet the increasing demands of our customers."

FFE's Driver Academy will provide a CDL training program for new drivers, tuition-free. Graduates will go into the company's driver training program for specific over-the-road training with certified FFE driver trainers. Upon successful completion of training the trainee will be upgraded to a first-seat driver. After four months of satisfactory performance as a company driver, FFE provides an opportunity to start his or her own business as a an owner-operator with the company.

The campus sits on 7 acres of property and features student housing and a spacious backing range.
