The Georgia Department of Public Safety recently required a performance-based brake tester for field inspections of heavy-duty tractor-trailers.

A PBBT is a device that assesses the braking capability of a vehicle through quantitative measure of individual wheel brake forces or overall vehicle brake performance in a controlled test. They are widely used for brake inspection in Europe and Australia and are beginning to emerge as both an enforcement tool and diagnostic aid for private sector maintenance and repair shops.

The portable VIS-Check unit deploys in a variety of roadside situations and is designed to withstand heavy use and meet DOT functional specifications with accuracy.

"With the addition of the portable Performance Based Brake Tester, our commercial vehicle inspectors are now able to perform a more thorough roadside vehicle inspection," according to Colonel Bill Hitchens, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
