A number of less-than-truckload carriers announced they are raising rates.

Following on the heels of a recent YRC announcement that it will raise general tariff rates by 5.9 percent, Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) announced this week that it would follow suit, reports the Journal of Commerce.

FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL also announced this week they will implement 6.9 percent general rate increases effective Nov. 1. And UPS Freight will raise its non-contract rates 5.9 percent Oct. 18.

However, Con-way Freight, one of the three largest LTL operators along with YRC and FedEx Freight, said it would not implement an "out-of-cycle" rate increase this fall because there is still overcapacity in the market.
