Asset-based supply chain solutions provider Specialized Transportation Inc. has added 112 new trailers to its fleet, which will be used to transport high touch products.
STI has contracted with Great Dane Trailers, Kentucky Trailer and Strick Corporation to fulfill the trailer purchase.

STI's new trailers feature enhanced cargo securement, air ride suspension and tuck-under lift gates. Half of the new trailers are equipped with 10-foot side loading doors for ease in loading/unloading of very large products. In addition, STI's trailers are equipped with doubleslot logistics posts enabling almost 4,500 internal cargo fastening points and decking flexibility.

"With STI's 'safety' culture, we instinctively identified non-standard placement of equipment to ensure safety of the drivers and those that may encounter an STI trailer in operation," said Tim Hughes, STI's director of safety.

STI's tires are SmartWay certified and the trailers are equipped with an integrated tire inflation system for improved efficiency, reliability, and overall tire life. The trailers are equipped with satellite-based tracking system, allowing STI to give customers real-time location visibility of all shipments.

"The demand for high touch logistics is showing steady growth," said Gary Durkes, director of sourcing at STI. "The design of the new trailers will allow us to continue to meet and exceed the marketplace requirements."
