Truckload carrier Marten Transport has increased its driver layover pay. Starting now, Marten drivers will receive $100 per day for layovers.

"We don't want our drivers to have to worry about a layover," said Tim Norlin, Marten's director of recruiting. "But when it's necessary, Marten wants to ensure that our drivers are fairly compensated for their time."

In the National Transportation Institute's recently completed National Driver Wages Survey, Marten Transport was one of the nation's best for total compensation packages.

"Increasing layover pay is just another way Marten shows how very committed we are to keeping driver pay strong despite economic challenges," said Norlin. "In my opinion, there's just no other carrier as dedicated to driver prosperity as we are. Drivers are more than worth it to us."

Marten plans to open a new terminal in Phoenix this summer.
