Remy International has received final approval to get started on its effort to accelerate standardization and commercialization of its Remy HVH electric motor technology.
In August 2009, the manufacturer was nominated for a $60.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and Remy received conditional approval in December 2009.
The electric motors will be designed for a variety of applications, including light-duty, medium-duty, heavy-duty, construction/agriculture, military and specialty vehicles.
"These funds will help Remy establish a strong domestic manufacturing base for electric drive motor technology and accelerate the use of electric drive vehicles with higher fuel efficiency," said John Weber, president and CEO. "This grant will allow for critical capital and human resource investment to create or protect 1,000 highly skilled jobs in the United States for Remy, its partners and its supply base."
Remy International recently announced the HVH 250, the next evolution of the advanced electric motor for hybrid and electric vehicle applications based on Remy's patented High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) technology. According to the company, the HVH technology can improve motor performance and cooling effectiveness; it also delivers increased range in all-electric drive mode and is compact and lightweight.
