April sales totaled 8,627 units, down from March's 9,025 units. In April 2009, sales were at 6,664 units. For the first four months of the year, heavy-duty truck sales totaled 32,466 units, up from 28,496 units during the same period of 2009.

Freightliner led the pack with the most sales in April and year to date. The manufacturer sold 2,762 units in April, with total year-to-date sales of 10,896. This was followed by International, which posted April sales of 2,519 units, and Peterbilt, with 1,106 units sold in April. Western Star sold 76 units during the month, the lowest of the Class 8 makers.

Meanwhile, Class 6 and 7 both showed weaker numbers than March of this year. Class 6 saw some improvement over the year-ago month, while Class 7 sales fell during that same period. Sales for Classes 6 and 7 were at 2,227 and 2,568 units, respectively, in April of this year. In March, Class 6 saw 3,373 units sold, while Class 7 saw 3,859 units sold. During the year-ago month, 1,957 units sold in Class 6, while 3,069 units sold in Class 7.
