The Teamsters Union has kicked off negotiations with ABF Thursday to discuss the company's request for economic relief
, according to a letter written by Tyson Johnson, co-chairman of the Teamsters National Freight Industry Negotiating Committee.

Johnson told all ABF Local Unions that the committee decided to negotiate with ABF after a meeting in late March, during which the TNFINC exchanged information with ABF representatives and had preliminary discussions about the company's financial needs.

"We heard from our members and local union leaders, and they made it clear they support negotiations," Johnson said. "Our paramount duty in these negotiations is to protect the jobs and benefits of the 7,000 Teamsters at ABF."
