In response to the severe winter storm hitting the Northeast, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the State Police have banned all commercial traffic, motorcycles and recreational vehicles on Interstates 380 and 84 until further notice.
School buses and tow trucks responding to incidents are still allowed access. In addition, state officials have instituted a 45 mph speed limit on all interstate highways in northeast Pennsylvania, according to reports by WFMZ.

The lowered speed limit applies to I-80 from where it meets the I-81 to the New Jersey line; I-81 from where it meets the I-78 to the New York state line; all of I-84 and I-380; and the Northeast Extension of I-476, WFMZ reports.

PennDOT urges motorists not to travel unless absolutely necessary. According to the department, the state will be working towards its primary goal of keeping roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow.

Drivers who cannot avoid traveling are encouraged to pack an emergency kit.
