During a five-day enforcement blitz targeting traffic violations by commercial vehicle drivers, Pennsylvania State Police troopers gave out 801 traffic citations and placed 21 trucks and 20 drivers out of service
, according to Commissioner Frank Pawlowski.

"Many crashes involving commercial vehicles are the result of traffic violations such as speeding, unsafe lane changes, or following too closely," Pawlowski said. "During this detail, troopers stopped trucks for Vehicle Code violations and then conducted roadside vehicle inspections and checked drivers' required documentation."

The effort, which was titled the Commercial Motor Vehicle Traffic Enforcement And MCSAP (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program) detail, or T.E.A.M., was conducted throughout the week of Nov. 21-25 by troopers trained through the program.

Troopers will conduct similar enforcement operations during 2010.
