The FTR Trucking Conditions Index rose slightly in August, but the index is still well below normal levels
. The index showed modest improvement from its March reading of -28.80, landing at -20.18 during the month of August.

FTR expects the index to remain well below normal levels until freight growth takes off in the second half of 2010.

The index was published in the August edition of FTR's The Trucker's Dashboard, which combines five trucking industry statistics into one metric measuring the overall health of the trucking industry.

"Even though the TCI is trending upward, real acceleration of the index must await a substantial recovery in capacity utilization that we don't expect until 2011," said Eric Starks, president of FTR.

The Trucker's Dashboard is a monthly report for motor carriers featuring in-depth analysis of the trucking industry, including forecasts for freight, fleet utilization, trucking costs and pricing.
