New Energy Technologies, an alternative and renewable energy developer, has begun developing a field-ready, full-scale version of its MotionPower technology for heavy-duty trucks, a device for capturing energy through the movement of heavy vehicles.

While the company has been testing and prototyping on both the auto and heavy truck version of the system, New Energy is ready to take it to the next level.

Rather than being installed in the vehicle, MotionPower technology is installed on the roadway, where vehicles decelerate or stop. The device assists the vehicle in slowing, capturing the vehicle's motion energy and converting it into clean electricity.

The system for heavy vehicles has been engineered to generate electricity while addressing utility demands and commercial considerations unique to large vehicles, including minimizing payload disruption, ensuring passenger comfort, and making special allowances for integration of the system at commercial trucking sites such as ports, weigh scales, border crossings, and central distribution sites.

The full-scale MotionPower system will be highly-scalable, have a low part count, and will feature smooth energy capture with minimal payload disruption, the company says.

While the new design will use the overall architecture validated in prototype tests, engineers will also incorporate additional engineering for high loads, repeated load cycles, and extended outdoor exposure.
