Expedited less-than-truckload carrier Daylight Transport has enhanced its services, with faster transit times on long-haul routes and a multi-million dollar investment in technology systems
. The company attributes the ability to improve these services to its financial strength.

"Daylight is super fast," said Richard Breen, CEO. "But we're not more expensive. In fact, many times we're less expensive than anybody else. We can do this because of our financial stability and our business model."

The Long Beach, Calif.-based company now provides three-day service on weekdays between southern California and Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. Any pickups done on Monday are delivered by Thursday of the same week, while Tuesday pickups arrive by Friday, the company says. Many coast-to-coast lanes deliver Friday shipments on Monday.

Breen says Daylight is able to deliver at such speeds because of the use of sleeper teams when hauling long distances.

"It costs us more to put two-man sleeper teams on long haul lanes, but we do it," he said. "We innovated with sleeper teams 32 years ago to bring the speed and reliability of air freight to the LTL trucking world, and we haven't stopped."

Aside from the faster service, the company plans on upgrading its logistics and management technology to run things more efficiently. "Our systems are one of the things that make it possible for us to customize services, be more flexible, and maintain low rates," said Breen.
