The winners are chosen by experienced judges with background in business publications.

Washington Editor Oliver B. Patton won a gold award for the western region in the News Analysis/Investigative category for "Roadway Reform" in the March 2008 issue, covering the long-awaited report of a congressionally appointed panel on how to fix the nation's infrastructure problems.

Doug Condra, who retired as president this year after 38 years with Newport, was honored with a western region gold for Staff Written Regular Column for two pieces relating to highway funding.
