Con-way Freight has launched True LTL Pricing, a capped pricing model that is more predictable and less expensive than truckload, the company says.
Under the new model, customers will never be charged more than truckload.

"Customers want LTL shipping to be easy to use and less expensive than truckload, no matter whether their shipments are large or small," said Sean Devine, vice president of pricing/engineering at Con-way Freight. "True LTL Pricing offers this certainty to everyone without the need for negotiations, along with all the advantages of Con-way Freight's optimized network."

The new model uses the pricing formula commonly used in truckload shipping, eliminating unexpected charges, such as the lineal foot rule. The new pricing also guarantees that delivery will be on time and that trucks are available for same-day pickup. The initiative will also involve fewer trucks on the highway.

"True LTL Pricing is not only an innovative pricing solution, but it also represents a big step on the sustainability path as it reduces waste in the transportation industry," Devine said. "Mixing smaller and larger shipments decreases the number of trucks on the road - ultimately conserving fuel, reducing carbon emissions and cutting down on traffic congestion."
