The Technology & Maintenance Council of American Trucking Associations has launched its scholarship program for the 2009-2010 academic year for students from WyoTech or the University of Northwestern Ohio.
The initiative is part of an ongoing effort by TMC's Professional Technician Development Committee to support the professionalism of commercial vehicle technicians.
Applicants must either be pursuing a diesel technology degree from WyoTech or from the University of Northwestern Ohio. University of Northwestern Ohio students may also apply if they're pursuing a bachelor's degree in specialized studies with a minor in automotive aftermarket management. The deadline is July 1.
Both schools are participants of the TMC's Professional Technician Development Committee, and are offering the scholarships to encourage careers in the trucking industry, specifically in maintenance and repair. The PTDC will help pick the winner, and both schools will review and accept all entries before the final decision is made.
Two WyoTech applicants will receive scholarships for nine months of its diesel program attendance at its Laramie, Wyo., or Blairsville, Pa., campuses. The University of Northwestern Ohio will award a tuition-only scholarship. Students interested in applying must have graduated from an accredited high school during the 2008-2009 school year. Candidates must also have a sponsor who is or is employed by a TMC member. A letter or recommendation is required from that sponsor.
