James Ransom of Boyd Bros. Transportation has been named Safety Professional of the Year by the Safety and Security Division of the Truckload Carriers Association.
Ransom received the Clare C. Casey Award, as it's called, at the division's annual meeting last week.

The award honors those who have contributed to safety on the highways, show leadership in the transportation industry and carry out the goals of protecting lives and property. Ransom helped contribute to a decrease in Boyd Bros.' accident frequency ratios.

Ransom has headed up safety compliance and risk management at Alabama-based Boyd Bros. for 29 years. Among his other accomplishments in safety, he has been named Safety Professional of the Year four times by the Alabama Trucking Association and has served on its Trucking Driving Committee and Safety & Management Council. With Ransom at the helm, Boyd Bros. has also won safety improvement awards from TCA, the Safety Management Council of the American Trucking Associations and the Alabama Trucking Association.

Ransom has also been a mentor in the industry, serving as an instructor for the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course since 1988. He keeps up to date with his own education by attending professional seminars, workshops and conventions on various topics. He has also been an active member of the North American Transportation Management Institute.

Ransom has been active at Boyd Bros., serving as chairman of the company's United Way drive and supporting Red Cross blood drives.
