Stoops Specialty Trucks has been awarded SmartWay certification status on its new Freightliner Cascadia Custom Sleeper Tractors, the only custom sleeper conversion units to achieve the honor.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay certification is bestowed on cleaner and more efficient transportation options that reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality.

"We started with a state-of-the-art aerodynamic day cab tractor and then installed our custom fully integrated sleeper conversion," said Jeff Jones, sales manager for the New Haven, Ind.-based Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star dealer.

Working with Bentz Transport Products, Stoops designed and built an OEM-style, integrated one-piece aerodynamic fiberglass roof module and then added custom wheel-to-wheel fairings with sleeper cab extenders to complete the package.

The new design will lower the drag coefficient for improved fuel economy and lower the carbon footprint. The taller roof also adds to the interior height to provide additional comfort and eighteen percent more storage. The model also features a satellite TV receiver that is located inside the roof panel to further lower the drag coefficient of the vehicle. The side fairings feature a large "built-in" tool box that pulls out for easy access and also has a side panel that provides service access to the genset.
