Mack Trucks will host its Driving Skills Safety Challenge at the WasteExpo 2009 show in Las Vegas June 9 and 10, where participants will be awarded $15,000 in prizes.
Contestants will attempt to drive a course simulating refuse-industry conditions while being judged on accuracy and safety.

"Refuse industry drivers make a critical contribution to safety every day as they travel crowded urban streets or make thousands of pickups on neighborhood roads," said Michael Reardon, Mack vice president of marketing. "It takes real skill and awareness to be safe and productive in this type of operation."

Potential drivers must be registered for the show and be at least 18 years old with a valid CDL and proof of operator training. Contestants will have one attempt and are able to enter as an individual or as a two-operator team. Participants will operate their choice of Mack TerraPro Low Entry and Cabover models. Competitors will have to pass a pre-operation safety check before navigating the course successfully.

First place in both the individual and team categories will receive a $500 gift certificate, GPS, watch and sunglasses. Second place winners will be awarded a $300 gift certificate and a Mack Citizen Eco-Drive watch. Third place contestants will win a $100 gift certificate and a chrome Mack Bulldog.
