Central Trucking, a national refrigerated carrier based in Indiana, has become of a member of the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership.

The company plans on assisting with SmartWay's goal of reducing 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of freight operations.

"Central Trucking Inc. is committed to being responsible environmental citizens. We feel there is no better way to accomplish this than by joining the SmartWay partnership," said Keith Roberts II, president. "Together, we can promote and encourage all attempts to reduce transportation-related emissions and, in turn, provide a better quality environment for future generations."

The SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies.

Central Trucking has been in business since 1974, serving points in the East and Midwest to the West Coast.
