Melton Truck Lines, a flatbed carrier based in Tulsa, Okla., received the 2008 Certificate of Merit from the Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business Program.
This is the second year in a row that Melton has been recognized.

The certificate, which is presented by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, recognizes companies who are making positive health and wellness activities available for its employees and contributing to the improving health of all Oklahomans. According to the Oklahoma Turning Point Committee, Melton has gone "above and beyond the call of duty to exemplify a healthy environment and healthy employees."

Over the past few years Melton has made a commitment to helping improve the health and wellness of employees and drivers. They have a wellness coordinator, gyms in two terminals, a new fitness studio for group classes in Tulsa, and various health programs all available to employees at no cost. At the beginning of 2009, Melton rolled out a voluntary company-wide weight loss program called "Team Lean - the Melton Meltdown 2009."

The trucking industry has struggled for many years to keep drivers as healthy as possible while out on the road. Melton's smoking cessation and "Fit Trucker" programs have been very successful at addressing driver health issues.
