Area Transportation of Homewood, Ill., a division of ADS Logistics, was recognized for its excellent safety performance by Aon Risk Services, the company's insurance and risk management advisor.

Area Transportation is the flatbed trucking division of ADS Logistics, a provider of supply chain services to the metals industry. Area operates a fleet of approximately 350 flatbeds and specialized metals heavy-haul equipment.

The Aon SafeFleet evaluation and certificate program requires that a trucking company's safety performance must be at least 15 percent better than the national average. Area Transportation's multi-year safety performance is 18 percent better than the trucking industry's national average.

"We are proud to recognize Area Transportation as one of the safest trucking fleets in the U.S., and congratulate them for being the first firm to earn the SafeFleet Certification Award," commented David W. J. Mitchell, director of risk control and safety for Aon Risk Services.

The SafeFleet certification process involves a review of accidents and injuries for a three-year period and compares this data with fleet-specific Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reports, as well as on-site audits of mileage records, accident registers and OSHA forms. The eight performance benchmarks include DOT crashes, crash-related injuries and fatalities, and lost-time work injuries.
