Professional Drivers Medical Depots of Knoxville, Tenn., will host a week-long health fair for professional drivers from Oct. 20-24 at its four locations: Knoxville, Tenn., West Memphis, Ark., Peru, Ill. and Atlanta, Ga.
The fair is designed to provide drivers in need with free services and information to help them improve their health.

"We have designed this health fair to meet the schedules and needs of professional drivers," said physician John McElligott, chairman and chief medical officer for PDMD. "We know that many drivers don't have the time or money to keep up with their health care, which may have them at risk. We understand, and just as we operate our regular clinics to meet these constraints, we plan to hold this health fair to meet the truckers' lifestyle. Our ultimate goal is to help these drivers improve their lifestyle, quality of life and overall health, and we'll do what it takes to make that happen."

All clinics will provide free wellness exams, hearing exams, sleep studies, blood pressure checks, flu shots and blood sugar checks. Drivers can also receive diet information, exercise information, stroke/heart attack information and other health-related and educational supplies. Doctors will be available throughout the week to allow professional drivers the opportunity to check on their health conditions as well. Each clinic will also have a raffle for gift cards from the Iron Skillet and Petro Shops.

PDMD is opening healthcare facilities at truckstops across the country. The facilities provide services to professional drivers, including DOT-related medical care (physicals, drug screening, breath alcohol testing), first aid and minor trauma care, personal medical care (chronic disease, infectious disease, musculoskeletal disorders, chiropractic care, dentistry, prescription drugs, sleep disorders), as well as preventive medicine (flu shots, wellness checks, smoking cessation, weight management, pneumonia vaccine).
