Delaware will deploy PrePass on Route 301 near Middleton in mid-2009 and will become the 29th state to install the high-tech electronic weigh station bypass service.

PrePass is a sophisticated technology that enables qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state-established weight, safety and credential requirements at highway speeds.

By avoiding stops at inspection facilities, and idling in queues, motor carriers reduce fuel consumption and the associated pollutants. Since its inception, PrePass has electronically processed more than 300 million inspection facility events, saving carriers in excess of 120 million gallons of motor fuel. Based on EPA engine idle reduction estimates, since its inception in 1995, PrePass has reduced emissions by more than 265 thousand metric tons.

PrePass Plus is fully-interoperable with the E-ZPass electronic toll system deployed throughout the Northeastern U.S., enabling motor carriers the convenience of one account and one in-cab transponder.

By eliminating inspection facility stops, as well as idling in inspection queues, PrePass saves participating motor carriers time and fuel, and reduces related greenhouse gases. At the same time, by eliminating lane changing around weigh stations and back-ups on the mainline, PrePass also improves safety.
